Arrangements for the Janaraksha Yatra led by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State president Kummanam Rajasekharan are in their final phase.

Preparations for the yatra, scheduled to be flagged off by BJP president Amit Shah at Payyannur on October 3, are in full swing, the BJP office here said. After the inauguration, Mr. Shah would join a foot march for a distance of 8 km from Payyannur to Pilathara.

Mr. Shah would also join a march from Mambaram to Thalassery on the third day of the campaign in the district.

He would also participate at the function to conclude the march in Thiruvananthapuram on October 17.

A lawyer has approached the Kerala High Court seeking to prevent the BJP from organising any public processions in Kannur in the name of Janaraksha Yatra.

The petitioner apprehended that the proposed yatra will help only to worsen the political situation in the district.
