A meeting of the district-level endosulfan relief and remediation cell here on Friday decided to enlist 77 more victims, examined at the special medical camps held in April last.

The decision by the cell came after widespread resentment over the exclusion of 1,618 suspected victims who continued to remain out of the official list after the special medical camps.

Revenue Minister E. Chandrasekharan, also the Minister-in-charge of the district, had ordered re-examination of the previous list in the light of this grievance during a cell meeting on February 8, 2017.

Additional victims

As per the list prepared on the basis of the special medical camp, a mere 287 fresh victims had found their names on the official list even as the draft list, set to have been tabled at a previous cell meeting, had the names of 1,905 additional victims.

The meeting held at the Collectorate here disclosed that 76 of the 1,618 victims were eligible to be included in the fresh official list while 505 persons had been found with serious health complications.

The meeting resolved to provide free medical treatment to the affected.

Tabling his report during the meeting, National Health Mission district programme manager Raman Swathi Vaman stated that 1,037 suspected victims were not eligible to be included in the official list.

With the inclusion of 76 more victims, the list went up to 363 from the previous figure of 287.

The list of 77 fresh victims was prepared after the authorities concerned decided to include yet another suspected 29-year-old victim after subjecting him to medical examination at his home in Pallikkare, near Neeleswaram. The district now has a total of 6,212 victims on the official list of endosulfan victims.

The meeting was attended by local MLA K. Kunhiraman, N.A. Nellikkunnu, M. Rajagopalan, Collector D. Sajithbabu, Endosulfan Cell Deputy Collector K. Jayalakshmi, besides Cell members.
