Freedom fighter Madhavan Nambiar dead

Freedom fighter P.K. Madhavan Nambiar, 89, who was associated with Vinoba Bhave’s ‘Bhoodan padyatra’ across the State, died at a private hospital here due to age-related ailments.

Mr. Nambiar, who was undergoing treatment at the hospital, died on Tuesday night, family sources said.

Mr. Nambiar, son of Meloth Kunhiraman Nambiar, joined the freedom movement after his brother P.K. Gopalakrishnan Nambiar was imprisoned in1942 for taking part in the freedom struggle. Mr. Nambiar was known for propagating Gandhian values. His body was kept at his Karadukka residence for the public to pay homage. The cremation was held on his residential premises around 12.30 p.m.

Mr. Nambiar is survived by wife, two sons, and a daughter. Congress (S) leader and Ports Minister Ramachandran Kadannappally in a statement condoled his death. — Staff Reporter
