: Social Forestry Division, Alappuzha, has made plans to plant 1.70 lakh saplings on the occasion of World Environment Day. District panchayat president G.Venugopal will inaugurate the district-level programme St. Joseph’s Higher Secondary School at 10.30 a.m. on Monday.
The programme is being held in association with political parties, local bodies, social organisations, government and non-government agencies. Alappuzha municipal chairman Thomas Joseph will preside over the function. The Vanamitra award for 2015 will be presented to Firoz Ahmed at the function.
Over 5,000 plants have been distributed to student police cadets as part of the ‘My Tree’ project being held in connection with the World Environment Day. As many as 2,252 students in 29 schools where the student police cadet programme is in force were given two plants each.
