Youth arrested on rape, murder charges

A youth has been arrested for raping and murdering a 21-year-old degree student near Javanhalli of Sira taluk in Tumakuru district.

On June 25 afternoon, the accused intercepted the girl after she alighted from a bus and was walking to her home. He dragged her behind a bush, gagged her mouth with her duppatta, raped her and cut her neck with a hacksaw blade, said the police. The accused, Rangaraju (20) alias Ranganath, a resident of Guligenahalli, was arrested on Thursday from his residence. The team has been awarded a prize of Rs. 2.5 lakh by the Director General and Inspector General of Police, Mr. Chakravarthy said.
