‘Gauri Lankesh should have been given security cover’

BJP State president B.S. Yeddyurappa said here on Wednesday that the murder of journalist and activist Gauri Lankesh is condemnable and the State government should conduct a thorough inquiry into it.

In an informal chat with presspersons he said that the State government should have given security to her as she was known for her bold writing. Though it is two years now since the murder of scholar M.M. Kalburgi in Dharwad, the government has failed to arrest the killers, which reflected the “style of functioning” of the government.

Mr. Yeddyurappa said that as part of ‘Mangaluru chalo’, BJP workers would stage a protest in the city on Thursday seeking the resignation of B. Ramanath Rai, Minister in-charge of Dakshina Kannada, as Mr. Rai has “failed to control law and order situation in Dakshina Kannada.” Mr. Rai should resign and there should be a thorough inquiry into the killing of Hindu activists in the coastal belt, he added.

Mr. Yeddyurappa arrived here to participate in the protest of the party on Thursday.
