Woman officer arrested by Lokayukta police for taking bribe

The Lokayukta police on Monday arrested S. Umadevi, Assistant Administrative Officer of District Sri Narasimharaja Hospital, while receiving bribe from a contractor.

Acting on a complaint by one Srinivas, who got the tender for cleaning of non-clinical division of the hospital, the Lokayukta put a trap and nabbed Ms. Umadevi.

According to the complaint, Ms. Umadevi demanded Rs. 66,000 bribe to clear the payment towards the contract.

Mr. Srinivas sent Rs. 30,000 through his representative Manjunath and the Lokayukta police arrested the officer while taking the amount.

Ms. Umadevi has been remanded in judicial custody. Lokayukta DySp Ramamurthy, inspectors Munikrishna, Ashwathnarayan and other staff participated in the operation.
