Continuing the trend of the past few years, Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) schools in the southern region, including Karnataka, have recorded the highest pass percentage in the country in the Class X examination the results of which were announced on Wednesday.
Karnataka has secured 99.83 per cent passes, which is more than the southern region average of 99.59 per cent.
The southern region average pass per cent is 1.31 per cent more than the overall national average of 98.28 per cent.
However, the southern region average has seen a decrease from last year’s 99.66 per cent.
In Karnataka, 10,975 students from 231 ICSE schools appeared for the exam.
All except 19 have cleared the exam. Girls with 99.93 per cent passes have outperformed boys who have secured 99.73 per cent passes.
Gerry Arathoon, chief executive and secretary of the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, said that Karnataka has always been one of the best performing States as its schools had a good track record.
Analysis“An analysis of the results in Karnataka reveals that the students have done well in all subjects,” he said.
The pass percentage of students from Other Backward Class (99.84 per cent) is more than the State average of 99.83 per cent. Students from Scheduled Castes have achieved a pass per cent of 99.18, while Scheduled Tribes students have recorded a pass per cent of 99.17.
While the southern region has the highest pass percentage, students from the western region with 99.41 per cent bagged the second spot followed by the eastern region (98.07 per cent) and the northern region (97.49 per cent).
Two of the four first rank-holders in the country who share the top spot nationally are from Bangalore-based schools. They are Shreyas Sudhaman from Sri Kumaran Public School and Apoorva Narayanswamy from St. Paul’s English School. These two have secured 98.60 per cent.
