The software industry, which offers “good quality jobs,” is the only salvation to the problem of unemployment, N.R. Narayana Murthy, Executive Chairman of Infosys, has said.
Pointing out that the State generates Rs. 55, 000 crore of software exports, out of the total exports worth Rs. 1.35 lakh crore from the country, Mr. Murthy said the industry generated “the highest net value addition among all industries in India.”
According to Mr. Murthy, an average software professional in Karnataka earns a monthly salary of Rs. 50,000 – not including the business process outsourcing business – compared to the per capita income of Rs. 6,000 in the State. “The software industry deserves encouragement from the government,” he said. Mr. Murthy was addressing members of the Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce on the occasion of its 36th annual general meeting. H.V. Harish was elected president, A.N. Chandramouli senior vice-president and Sonali Kulkarni as vice-president.
