Shivakumara Swami, the 111-year-old seer of Siddaganga Mutt, Tumakuru, who underwent a liver bypass and gall bladder removal at the Dr. Rela Institute and Medical Centre in Chennai last Saturday, has been responding well to treatment and is recovering.

According to the seer’s personal physician Parameshwara, he had been shifted from the ICU to the ward on Thursday evening. However, he was shifted back to the ICU on Friday morning to avoid the stream of visitors turning up to see him. “He is conscious, well-oriented, and is communicating well. His doctors have said he may have to stay in hospital for four to five more days,” the mutt doctor said.

Shivakumara Swami had been suffering from cholangitis, an inflammation of the bile duct, and was shifted to the institute last Friday after he again developed an infection.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and former Chief Ministers B.S. Yeddyurappa and S.M. Krishna paid a visit to the hospital on Friday and wished the seer a speedy recovery.
