Sunil Fernandes (33), a Deacon with the Diocese of Shimoga, allegedly committed suicide by hanging in his room at Chaitanya Hall belonging to Shimoga Multipurpose Social Service Society(SMSSS) in the city on Tuesday night.
The deceased hails from Ujire in Dakshina Kannada district. He was a seminarian with Diocese of Shimoga and was serving as Associate Director of SMSSS, a social service arm of the Diocese.
The reason behind his suicide is yet to be ascertained. The police said the deceased did not leave behind any death note. A case has been booked with Tunga Nagar police station in this connection.
