District Congress Committee (DCC) president Fathyarajan has informed that the Congress candidate for the local bodies MLC elections G. Raghu Achar would file his nomination papers on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, he said that the number of aspirants in the district was more and the DCC had sent four names — Mr. Achar, Hanumali Shanmukhappa, Kengo Hanumantappa, and Mohammad Pasha — for final approval of the candidate to the party high command. Based on the performance of Mr. Achar in the last two-and-a-half years as MLC, the party has selected him as candidate.

“Though Mr. Achar contested in the last elections as an independent candidate, he joined Congress party and is working sincerely for strengthening the roots of the party in the region. Apart from that, he has systematically utilised the funds released by the government for various development works in the constituency,” he added.

The Chitradurga local bodies constituency consists of nine taluks.
