Minister for Food and Civil Supplies and district in-charge Dinesh Gundu Rao on Monday said that he will prevail upon the Chief Minister to recommend Dharwad for setting up an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) as it met most of the requirements including that of land.
Speaking to presspersons after his visit to Belur Industrial Estate on the outskirts of Dharwad on Monday, Mr. Dinesh Gundu Rao said that more than 500 acres was available at Mummigatti near Dharwad. He had seen the land, he said, adding,
“I have already written to the Chief Minister on choosing Dharwad for the IIT sanctioned to Karnataka. I am not averse to putting political pressure in this regard,” he said.
To a query regarding efforts being made by leaders of Mysuru, Shivamogga, Hassan, Raichur and other places to get the IIT, the Minister said that it was natural for the leaders of the respective regions to make efforts to get the premiere institution sanctioned in their region.
Mr. Dinesh Gundu Rao said that he would try to convince the government on the availability of requisite infrastructure, human resource and air, road, train connectivity.
