A suspect in the Manipal gang-rape case who had attempted suicide was arrested by the police here on Sunday after he was discharged from Kasturba Hospital.
Ananda was one of the two suspects who attempted suicide on June 27.
A medical student of Manipal University hailing from Kerala was abducted from the university campus by three persons in an autorickshaw and gang-raped near Manipal on the night of June 20. The student, who suffered a fracture in her leg, is recuperating in the Kasturba Hospital.
Of the three suspects in the case, Shivaprasad was arrested on June 27, while Yogesh Poojary and Ananda, who attempted suicide, were admitted to the hospital. The condition of Yogesh, who had consumed pesticide, continues to be critical.
Shivaprasad was produced before the court in Udupi on June 28, which remanded him in police custody till July 3. Superintendent of Police M.B. Boralingaiah said Ananda would be produced before the court in Udupi on Monday.
The police were yet to record the victim’s statement. Investigations were on and evidences were being collected in the case, he added.
