The Mandya police have arrested a man on Sunday for allegedly desecrating a photo of B.R. Ambedkar at Bendarawadi village in Malavalli taluk recently. The police have identified the accused as Chennappa Kunnaiah of Bendarawadi village.

According to the police, the accused allegedly desecrated the photo on a board displayed in the village.

The accused had a fight with a few people in the village and hence, “to disturb the peace in the village,” he desecrated the photo. The police are investigating the case.

A local organisation had installed the board on the land identified for the construction of a bhavan in the village.

Meanwhile, the Karnataka Dalit Sangharsh Samiti has said that it would stage a protest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Tuesday.

The samiti will urge the State government to initiate stringent action against the culprit, its spokesperson told The Hindu here on Monday.
