Those wishing to take competitive examinations conducted by the UPSC, KPSC, Indian Banking Personnel Selection Board and so on, need not pay hefty fees for coaching in private centres as the Karnataka State Open University (KSOU), Mysore, has decided to launch an exclusive centre to train candidates in competitive examinations.
Importantly, candidates will be charged a nominal fee for coaching for the civic services and other examinations, as the university aims to train candidates from rural and urban areas who cannot afford to pay higher fees in private coaching centres in places such as New Delhi.
Committee guidance
Disclosing this to presspersons here on Wednesday, Vice-Chancellor K.S. Rangappa said the training centre functioned under the guidance of a high-powered committee headed by him. “Together, we shall work towards making the centre unique ,” he said.
The university had appointed Jainahalli Satyanarayana Gowda, who is associated with Gnanabutti coaching centre for competitive examinations, as the centre's coordinator.
Details such as the admission procedure and fee structures would be announced shortly, Prof. Rangappa said.
Prof. Rangappa said that few students, particularly those from rural areas, were taking competitive examinations for lack of affordable coaching facilities. Moreover, coaching in private centres is expensive.
The university, therefore, proposed to set up the training centre to bridge the gap, help students appear for examinations and come out with flying colours, he informed.
The centre also intends to train students in examinations conducted by the University Grants Commission (UGC), Karnataka State Entrance Examination (K-SET), police department examinations, etc.
The Vice-Chancellor said the centre would make efforts to train candidates on how to take up self-employment and educate them on the schemes of the Union and State governments.
