A large number of people staged a dharna at Gandhi Park here on Monday opposing the move to transfer Deputy Commissioner D.K. Ravi, allegedly under pressure from some elected representatives.
The protesters displayed placards and raised slogans against the transfer move. “Mr. Ravi’s continuation as Deputy Commissioner is necessary in the interests of development of the district. He has taken bold steps to protect government land, including tanks, the main water source in the region,” was the main point made by a number of functionaries.
Many people signed post cards addressed to the Chief Minister, demanding that Mr. Ravi be retained at least till the end of his three-year term.
The protesters warned of a sustained agitation if Mr. Ravi was transferred. They also condemned the attack on Director-General of the Administrative Training Institute (ATI) Rashmi V.
