Following complaints of an attempt on his life, lodged by Narendra Nayak, president of the Federation of Indian Rationalists’ Associations, and campaigner against superstitious practices, the Mangaluru police have increased his security cover.

In a complaint filed with the Urwa police here on Wednesday, Mr. Nayak said about 7 a.m. two motorcycle-borne men came close to his car as he was approaching Lalbagh Road, and indicated that one of the tyres was punctured.

‘Attempt to attack’

He alleged that it was an attempt to make him alight from the car in order to attack him. He drove away without stopping, he said.

Speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Nayak said the manner in which the motorcycle-borne men approached him, indicated that they planned to harm him.

Mr. Nayak, who has been leading a campaign to bring the killers of slain RTI activist Vinayak Baliga to book, had received threats earlier and had brought it to the notice of the police.
