‘Fundamentalists raising their ugly heads again’

October 24, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:40 am IST - KALABURAGI:

The former Union Minister and leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha, M. Mallikarjun Kharge, on Friday criticised the Union government for allowing Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief, Mohan Bhagwath, to allegedly misuse All India Radio (AIR) to spread the ideology of Hinduism on Vijayadasami.

Speaking after offering his obeisance to an idol of Lord Buddha at Siddarth Buddha Vihar here on Thursday, Mr. Kharge said that the RSS and its fringe organisations were misusing the government facilities and platforms like AIR to spread their philosophy.

Mr. Kharge warned that fundamentalists were raising their ugly heads and this should be nipped in the bud.

He said that Vijayadashami was an important day in the history of independent India when Dr. Ambedkar chose the day in 1956 to embrace Buddhism at Nagpur, the headquarters of RSS.
