Expressing concern over the rising number of cases of murders, gang wars, extortion and abductions in Bangalore, the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) on Tuesday said that it would launch an agitation to protest against the “apathy” of the State government in apprehending anti-social elements.
Delegation
A delegation, comprising legislators representing several Assembly constituencies of Bangalore, including R. Roshan Baig, Dinesh Gundu Rao, Prasanna Kumar, Narendra Babu, K.J. George, led by KPCC president G. Parameshwara, met Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar and urged him to restore the deteriorating law and order.
Memorandum
In a memorandum to Mr. Shettar, the Congress leaders said that the rising number of murders, gang wars, extortion and abductions in Bangalore was maligning the name of the silicon city and had become a cause of worry for law enforcement agencies.
15 murders
As many as 15 murders, especially of women and the elderly, in the last 10 days had caused anxiety among the citizens.
Instead of containing the crime, senior police officials are engaged in power struggles, thus demoralising the lower level personnel, the memorandum states.
Speaking to The Hindu , Mr. George from Sarvajnanagar constituency said that Mr. Shettar assured the delegation of taking immediate steps to contain crime by directing the police officials concerned to deal with the anti-social elements with an iron hand.
