Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim has directed the horticulture department to clear all constructions in the proposed Deer Park and restrict the activities only for the defined purpose - park and open space.
In a directive issued here on Friday, Mr. Ibrahim said all the constructions should immediately be cleared irrespective of whether those constructions having been approved by any authority. The construction activities go against The Karnataka Park, Play Fields and Open Spaces (Preservation and Regulation) Act, 1985 and also directives by the Karnataka High Court, he said.
Mr. Ibrahim along with Zilla Panchayat’s chief executive officer P.I. Shreevidya had inspected the park on Thursday following reports that several trees inside the proposed park have been felled without permission and construction of shops was going on. There has been widespread public resentment against these activities even as the constructions came in the way of smooth vehicular movement on the adjacent road. Garbage from the shops was piling up at the site, Mr. Ibrahim noted.
He asked the department to implement his order with immediate effect and file a compliance report by Monday.
