AAP to field candidates against leaders in ‘list’

February 02, 2014 11:58 am | Updated May 18, 2016 05:21 am IST - BANGALORE:

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which released a list of corrupt politicians from all parties on Friday, said it will field candidates against Union Minister M. Veerappa Moily, the former Minister Ananth Kumar, and the former Chief Ministers B.S. Yeddyurappa and H.D. Kumaraswamy in the Lok Sabha elections.

Addressing presspersons, member of the National Executive of AAP, Prithvi Reddy, said as the party was against dynastic politics, it would field candidates even against family members of corrupt politicians, who figure in the list.

The list of the corrupt is likely to swell in the coming days as the scrutiny of affidavits filed by them, at the time of contesting the elections, was in progress. “We have submitted a list of 25 corrupt politicians from Karnataka, against whom the party will field candidates,” he said. The party launched Mane Maneyalli Aam Aadmi, Mane Manege AamAadmi -door-to-door awareness campaign from February 1. The aim is to create awareness among the electorate on the brand of politics being propagated by the party, besides enlightening them on the corruption of political leaders, he said. “The campaign will continue till election ends,” he added.

To a query on having an alliance with forums fighting against corruption, Mr. Reddy said talks were on with farmers’ organisations and Sarvodaya Karnataka Party, which share similar concerns.

Noted personalities, including Ambassador (retd.) Pascal Alan Nazareth, V. Balakrishna, who stepped down as board member of Infosys, businessman Ramneek Bhakshi, Shanthala Damle and US-returned software engineer Ravikrishna Reddy of Lok Satta Party joined the AAP on Saturday.
