Hindu Jagaran Vedike and other pro-Hindu organisations have called for a Kodagu bandh on Thursday, demanding justice for Deputy Superintendent of Police late M.K. Ganapathy.
Several organisations have expressed support for the bandh, demanding a CBI probe into Ganapathy’s alleged suicide, besides action against Minister for Bengaluru Development K.J. George and IPS officers A.M. Prasad and Pronab Mohanty, who have been accused of harassing the Dy.SP.
While private buses and autorickshaws are expected to stay off the road on Thursday, Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation officials said a decision on plying buses would be taken only after assessing the situation.
Deputy Commissioner of Kogadu Richard Vincent D’Souza, however, has cautioned supporters of the bandh against resorting to forced closure of shops and other commercial establishments.
He said the district administration and the police would ensure that the II PU supplementary examinations scheduled to be held on Thursday were conducted without disruption.
Kodagu district Superintendent of Police P. Rajendra Prasad said security would be tightened with additional police force across the district, besides deploying videographers in sensitive areas.
