Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made a departure from protocol for Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and visiting Chinese President Xi Jinping. The reasons for going the extra mile would seem obvious. The two countries received him when others wouldn’t, and gave the then Gujarat Chief Minister a welcome reserved for a head of state.
