CPJ releases safety guide for journalists covering Indian elections

The safety kit is available in four Indian languages including Tamil, Hindi, Kannada and Bangla, besides English.

As the country heads for general elections, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) is releasing its safety advisories for journalists on March 8, 2024.

CPJ’s Emergencies Response Team (ERT) has compiled a safety advisory for journalists covering India’s election. The advisory contains information for editors, reporters, and photojournalists on how to prepare for the election and how to mitigate digital, physical, and psychological risks. It will be available in four Indian languages including Tamil, Hindi, Kannada and Bangla, besides English.

The event includes an address by N. Ram, the former editor-in-chief of The Hindu, followed by a panel discussion of senior Indian journalists including Ishani Dutta Ray, Editor of Ananda Bazar Patrika;. Dhanya Rajendran, Editor-in-Chief of The News Minute; Ashish Pandey, Editor of Navbharat Times; and Colin Pereira, CPJ’s chief strategist on journalist safety.
