Ruling Telugu Desam Party MLC nominee Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy has scored an emphatic 711-vote win with 286 YSR Congress local body representatives backing his candidature in the MLC election in Prakasam District, brushing aside the poll boycott call by the YSRC.
Mr. Srinivasulu Reddy polled 725 votes as against 13 votes secured by YSR Congress candidate A.C. Venkata Reddy, Joint Collector and Returning Officer M. Hari Jawaharlal announced the result soon after counting of votes was over on Tuesday.
"I am able to win by such a huge majority with 286 YSRC local body representatives backing me, despite the YSRC's poll boycott call'', said Mr. Srinivasulu Reddy emerging out of the counting centre.
As many 17 votes were declared invalid. The vote of former Zilla Parishad Chairman Edara Haribabu, who had challenged in the Supreme Court his disqualification as ZPTC member from Ponnalur for alleged violation of whip issued by the TDP during the indirect election held last year, was kept in a sealed cover.
