Water will be released to Brahmamsagar reservoir, integral part of Telugu Ganga project, at Brahmamgari Matham in the district by July, Irrigation Minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao said on Friday.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had ordered completion of Telugu Ganga canal repairs on a war-footing to release water to the reservoir by July, he told mediapersons after inspecting the reservoir and ongoing works. He garlanded retired Chief Engineer Sriramakrishnaiah’s statue near the reservoir.

Kadapa Mayor K. Suresh Babu, Kadapa MLA S.B. Amzath Basha, Mydukur MLA S. Raghurami Reddy and Badvel MLA T. Jayaramulu, all of YSR Congress, called on the Minister and urged him to take steps to ensure drinking water supply to Kadapa, Mydukur and Badvel towns. The Mayor sought release of water from Alaganuru reservoir till April end to cater to drinking water needs of Kadapa through Lingampalle water works.

The Minister directed engineers concerned to supply adequate drinking water without harping on GOs and orders.
