Director General of Police R.P. Thakur said that strong action will be taken against also those who were found guilty in the rave party case. He was addressing the media after inaugurating the MVP Model Police Station here on Tuesday.

Mr. Thakur informed the media that about 100 drug abusers and five peddlers have been identified. “We have arrested six, including the main organiser Sonu, and will shortly arrest another 9 to 10 persons,” he said.

According to the DGP, the names of a few prominent and powerful persons have been revealed in the course of investigation and the police are gearing up to arrest them.

The rave party was busted on April 13, at a private hotel near Rushikonda and peddlers were caught with drugs such as LSD, cocaine and MMDA. The drugs were sourced from Goa and through the Dark Web.

Ganja cultivation

“Vizag is a peaceful place with a cosmopolitan culture. And at any cost we will not allow its peace be disturbed. Investigation is on and none will be spared,” he assured the media.

Accepting that ganja cultivation was rampant in the Agency areas, he said that efforts were on to destroy them at the plantation level. “We are also aware that ganja form Vizag Agency is being exported and exchanged for high value drugs,” he said.

Model police station

Mr. Thakur said that a helpline number 75693 09090 has been created exclusively for receiving complaints pertaining to drug abuse and peddling.

Earlier, inaugurating the MVP Police Station, the DGP said that this was the second such police station in the city after PM Palem Police Station.

“MVP police station was built at a cost of about ₹1.6 crore from the AP Police Housing Board funds and our idea is to convert all police stations in the city to Model Police Stations. The next in the pipeline is Harbour Police Station, which is being built with funds from VPT CSR funds,” he said.

The two-floor swanky police station is built over 6,000 sft and has plush reception area with a seating capacity of over 25 people.

Apart from having adequate parking space and corporate look, this is the only police station with two restrooms (men and women) for the staff, said Mr. Thakur.

There is a custody room and a lock up in the second floor. “People and the staff should enjoy the ambience and not dread coming to a police station and that is the idea behind building model police stations,” said Mr. Thakur.
