June 24, 2012 10:50 am | Updated 10:50 am IST - TIRUPATI:

The scope of the special drive currently on in the State to rein-in the private transport operators and school managements and make them adhere to the rules and regulations vis-à-vis the maintenance of their vehicles, registration, fitness certificate etc is expected to be widened, so as to cover even the vehicles belonging to the A.P.State Road Transport Corporation and the various government departments as well.

Road-worthiness

This was hinted at by a senior official of the Transport Department which has embarked upon the crack down on the private fleet operators, school managements which were allegedly running their vehicles without proper documents and their road-worthiness.

APSRTC buses and so also the vehicles used by the government departments must adhere to the Transport Department rules and regulations because whether it is private and public transport, they all deal essentially with human lives.

Primary duty

It is the primary duty of the Transport Department to ensure the safety of their lives, said the official.

Meanwhile, as the drive launched by the government against the illicit and illegal transport operators has entered the fourth day on Saturday, as many as 14 vehicles, including ten school buses were seized on Saturday at Madanapalle in Chittoor district.

With this the total number of private vehicles and school buses seized so far in the district has touched the 320 mark charge-sheets against the operators concerned would be filed soon in the court, said the transport department official.
