A drive through the bustling roads dotted with commercial shops is an indication of the times.

The once hotbed of faction politics and gladiatorial contests between Kasu Krishna Reddy (Congress) and Kodela Siva Prasada Rao (TDP) is on the cusp of a change. A transformation from a modest town to a bustling town is in the making.

The gateway to Palnadu

The gateway to Palnadu is gearing up for the centenary celebrations to be held during December 11-13, 2015. The town, is also a popular destination on the religious circuit as the Trikoteswara Swamy Temple, is located about 15 km.

The region comes alive on the Mahashivaratri festival. AP Assembly Speaker Kodela Siva Prasada Rao, who had been elected five times from the year 1983, has been personally supervising the arrangements beginning with the inaugural on December 11.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is the chief guest at the inaugural event. Union Minister for Urban Development M. Venkaiah Naidu is the guest on the second day and Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan is the chief guest at the valedictory of the three-day celebrations. A centenary celebration of a municipality offers an opportunity to inspire people and pave the way for future development. Mr Siva Prasada Rao, who was once a busy medical surgeon in the town before making his foray in the politics, is determined to make a lasting contribution.

“Development, welfare and lifestyle changes are the three major planks on which we have lined up activities in the build up to the centenary celebrations.

Whether it is construction of a Railway under Bridge at Prakash Nagar or construction of modern burial grounds or opening of parks, I have planned activities in a manner that will benefit future generations,” Dr. Siva Prasada Rao said.

Massive scale

The centenary celebrations are being planned on a massive scale at the stadium. Cultural artistes like Sivamani, dancer Shobana and several State-level artistes are expected to take part.

Hoary past

The town has a hoary past dating back to 1797 when it got its name. The first municipality was formed on June 18, 1915. The town got its name after a local zamindar of Atluru, Raja Malraju Venkata Gundarayaningaru constructed a fort in the name of Narsarayuni.
