Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said he would take up with his Himachal Pradesh counterpart, Virbhadra Singh regarding complaints of tardy pace of rescue operations in the wake of drowning of 24 students at Kullu.
Expressing his anguish over the incident, Mr. Naidu said he spoke to parents, who complained of tardy pace of rescue work. He said the lives of 24 students were snuffed out due to the lapse committed by the authorities in that State. Normally, an alert would be sounded to those living in the downstream. “It is an example of the problems that will arise due to administrative failure,” he added.
The AP government arranged a special flight to carry parents of the students from here to Chandigarh. From there, they were taken to the mishap site in three helicopters. Mr. Naidu deputed Minister P.Narayana and AP government representative in Delhi, K. Ram Mohan Rao to accompany the parents and coordinate the rescue efforts.
Replying to a question, he said he had instructed the Chief Secretary to coordinate the rescue efforts with the Telangana government.
