Tremors caused tension in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Tekkali, Itchapuram and other surrounding areas on Wednesday night. Many people in the town ran out from homes fearing further tremors. The tremors continued for 12 seconds from 9.58 p.m. Though no damage was reported, many people felt its intensity.

Many residents who were sleeping on floors and terraces noticed the intensity. A resident of Visakha-A colony Lakshmanbabu told The Hindu that he felt the tremors.

“I have never experienced such tremors in my life time, we feared that tremors would occur again with more intensity,” he added. Srikakulam Collector Saurabh Gaur alerted the administration and asked the officials to be alert since Srikakulam has vast coast line of about 190 km.
