East Godavari district Collector H. Arun Kumar on Wednesday said that land acquisition (LA) process for the extension of Madhurapudi airport near Rajahmundry had been completed and compensation for farmers would be paid by October.
Addressing farmers of Madhurapudi and Burugupudi villages at the sub-collector’s office here, he said requests of farmers in connection with the land acquisition had been examined. The Collector said 857 acres of private and government land had been acquired and payments would be made after the disposal of cases pending in different courts.
Report submitted
He said a report had been submitted to the government on the amount to be paid as compensation to the farmers, adding that Rs.17 crore would be paid for the trees as part of the LA. Mr. Kumar said the present airport was spread over 357 acres and pointed out that 797 acres of private land along with 60 acres of government land had been acquired for its expansion. The land would be handed over to the Airports Authority of India after completion of the process.
Sub-Collector V. Viajayarama Raju said the report on road plan for the airport would be submitted to the Chennai Airport Authority by September 16.
