G. Suresh Babu, a resident of Kurnool, has scaled Mt. Lhotse, the fourth highest peak in the world. The expedition began 23 days ago which ended on Sunday midnight. The 20-year-old has scaled seven mountains on five continents in a two-year span.This is the third eight-thousander Mr Suresh has scaled.

He began his climbing career with the tallest mountain, Mt. Everest in May 2017. After just nine months of training, he was selected for the Everest expedition. After Mt. Everest, he scaled Mt. Manaslu (8,163), Nepal, Mt. Aconcagua (6,960), Argentina, Mt. Kilimanjaro (5,891), Tanzania, Mt. Elbrus (5,642), Russia, Mt. Kosciuszko (7,310), Australia, and Mt. Lhotse (8,516), Nepal. Scaling a total of 51,431 metres in two years. His mentor, V. Jagan said that he is the youngest South Indian to climb Mt. Manaslu, and the first person from Andhra Pradesh to scale Mt. Aconcagua. He claimed that Mr Suresh would become the world record holder for scaling seven mountains, in five continents, in the span of two years.
“We will soon apply for Guinness Book of World Record soon and get the proper certification,” he added.
Speaking with The Hindu , an elated Mr. Suresh thanked his sponsors, District Collector S. Satyanarayana, district sports authorities, and the faculty as well as the students of Silver Jubilee College, where he is currently pursuing B.Sc.
Mr. Suresh was born in Gonegandla village of Gonegandla mandal in Kurnool district, to a poor SC family. In September 2016, while he was in Intermediate at the Andhra Pradesh Social Welfare Residential Education Institution (APSWRI), he had applied for a training camp, where he was selected to trek up the Mt. Everest.
