The Rayalaseema Parirakshna Samiti president Byreddy Rajasekhara Reddy on Saturday demanded that all the legislators from Rayalaseema region fight for development of the region or face the wrath of the public.

Speaking at large public gathering near Sri Krishnadevaraya University on the outskirts, symbolically ending his 1,000 km ‘Rayalaseema Atmagourava Yatra’ in the presence of thousands of his supporters, he said that all public representatives express commitment to the cause of development of the region, even if they are forced to fight for a separate State of Rayalaseema, if a separate Telangana State was carved out.

‘Rayalaseema Atmagourava Yatra’ was started by Byreddy on October 2 from Ketavaram village of Kurnool district, with demand for separate Rayalaseema State. It covered 1,000 km across Rayalaseema ending on Saturday at Anantapur.

Speaking at the public meeting, he said that he understood the problems that were plaguing the people in the region and said that Rayalaseema region was the most backward in the State.

“A special economic package for Rayalaseema is an immediate need while the question of the identity of Rayalaseema remains to be answered,” he said trying to get a foothold into the regional identity politics and forging himself as the champion of the demand for a separate Rayalaseema.

The meeting had well over 30 speakers, giving many unheard leaders in the four districts of Rayalaseema a stage to speak out, besides a few teachers’ constituencies MLCs. From the district were a few YSRC leaders including the recently joined Sarath Chandra Reddy.

The meeting witnessed enthusiastic crowds who kept up the decibel quotient at meeting with their slogans of ‘Jai Rayalaseema’ even as many students from the SKU campus joined enthusiastically.

While many leaders stuck to the demand for a separatae Rayalaseema if Telangana was to be carved out, a few expressed their backing of an undivided State.
