The Gudivada One Town police arrested eight persons, including women, for performing a child marriage. The bride (13 years) was produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) on Friday, which ordered that the girl be shifted to a home.

According to Circle Inspector M.V. Durga Prasad, the girl was studying eighth class and was staying in the government hostel at Rudrapaka village. The bridegroom was pursuing senior Intermediate in the same place.

On receiving information that they went to Manginapudi beach in Machilipatnam, their elders held a panchayat and fixed the muhurtam on June 2.

Accordingly, they performed the marriage in a shrine.

Following a complaint lodged by Village Revenue Officer D. Prasad, police registered a case under Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, Section 342 IPC (Wrongful Confinement) and other sections against the parents and other family members who performed the wedding of the minors.

The girl was sent for medical examination and was sent to a home.
