Dravidian University at the tri-State junction in Kuppam will soon introduce Sanskrit as an optional subject at the undergraduate level. This is seen as a radical step in the direction of streamlining research on ancient languages.
Presiding over a two-day workshop on ‘Literature of Alwars’ at Dravidian University, Vice-Chancellor Prof. E. Satyanarayana termed the institution as the confluence of Dravidian and Sanskrit studies and research.
“It is a happy development that we are going to introduce Sanskrit studies here as an optional subject at the UG level, and steps will be taken to give further boost to the classical language at other crucial levels of academics,” he said, adding that the varsity would come forward to do advanced research on ‘Alwar Divya Prabandhams’.
