A.P.’s attitude confrontationist, says Telangana Minister

May 18, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The Telangana Government has strongly objected to the attitude of Andhra Pradesh in the matter of irrigation projects and the river water sharing in Krishna, following AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s complaint with the Centre and Kurnool district administration’s letter to Raichur (Karnataka) authorities against carrying out works on Rajolibanda Diversion Scheme (RDS) anicut.

Alleging that AP was treading a confrontational path on the issue, Telangana Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao on Tuesday said with the two complaints, the AP Government or rather its leaders, were opposing the decisions agreed upon by them in the past.

He faulted AP’s reluctance for talks on the RDS issue and other contentious subjects, if any. On AP’s opposition to increasing the barrage height of RDS and modernisation its common canals, Mr. Harish Rao pointed out that it was in 2005 the then government had sanctioned Rs.72 crore for the purpose since Mahabubnagar (now in Telangana) was not getting water to even one-third of the 87,500 acres ayacut under the project.
