More than 35 people were injured, two of them seriously, when an old building collapsed at Muddanapalle village of Ramakuppam mandal on Tuesday evening. The villagers were watching ‘Jallikattu’ from the roof of the building when it came down.

Hundreds of spectators from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kuppam had thronged the Tri-State Junction to witness the bull race. More than 70 people were sitting on the roof of the building when it caved in, throwing 35 of them under the debris.

Local residents and police cleared the debris and shifted the injured to hospitals at Ramakuppam, Kuppam, Gudupalle and Shantipuram. According to preliminary information, the condition of two who have been admitted to the PES Medical College Hospital is serious.

The Ramakuppam police are investigating. The bull race was called off following the mishap.
