The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) which probed the death of former Union Minister Gopinath Munde has ruled out any foul play, concluding that he died due to the injuries sustained in a road accident in the Capital on June 3.
“During the investigations, movements of all the suspected persons were checked thoroughly. The accident site was also examined and all possibilities explored. We have come to the conclusion that there was no foul play in the case. However, culpability of the car driver who caused the accident is being investigated,” said a CBI official.
The CBI had taken over the case, days after several political leaders and his supporters from Maharashtra raised doubts.
Mr. Munde, who after taking charge as the Union Rural Development Minister, was on his way to board a flight to join celebrations on his victory in the Lok Sabha elections in his constituency at Beed in Maharashtra when he met with an accident and succumbed to serious injuries.
The Delhi Police had earlier arrested Gurvinder Singh, the driver of another car involved in the accident, on the charge of causing death due to rash and negligent driving.
