Russia says it will protect compatriots in eastern Ukraine

The Russian Foreign Ministry has blamed the Ukrainian government for a deadly clash in the eastern city of Donetsk and said that Russia will protect its compatriots there.

“Russia is aware of its responsibility to protect the lives of compatriots and fellow citizens in Ukraine and retains the right to protect people,” the ministry said.
