The district administration has begun preparations for the counting of votes polled in the Lok Sabha elections. As many as 927 officials will be deployed for the counting scheduled for May 16. A total of 618 officials, three each at a table, will engage in the counting at 206 tables. The remaining 309 persons have been included on the reserve list. Each table will have a micro observer, counting assistant and counting supervisor. Postal votes will be counted first.
Mobile phones have been banned inside the counting centres. The results will be declared only after obtaining permission from the Election Commission. In all Assembly segments in the district, except Kozhikode South and Thiruvambady, votes from 14 polling booths will be counted in the first round.
The counting of votes polled in the Kozhikode Lok Sabha seat will be held at various classrooms in Farook College. The counting of the Vadakara seat will be held at JDT Islam Complex, Vellimadukunnu.
Meeting of candidatesA meeting of candidates and counting agents will be held at the Town Hall here on Wednesday.
The meeting of candidates and counting agents from the Vadakara constituency will be held at 3 p.m. and from Kozhikode and the Thiruvambady Assembly segment of Wayanad constituency at 4.30 p.m. Official sources said that the four Central Election Commission observers would reach the district on Wednesday. A media centre would function at the counting centres and at the Civil Station, District Election Officer C.A. Latha said.
