Farmer fatally injured in wild boar attack

Animal gunned down, carcass sent for post-mortem

A farmer who was savagely attacked by a wild boar near Mukkom in the district succumbed to his injuries at the Government Medical College Hospital here on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Abdul Salam, 58, of Karamoolakkadathu Kumaranalloor Kilathu. The boar attacked Abdul Salam while he was tilling the soil in his compound at around 8 a.m. He was initially taken to a private hospital at Mukkom and later shifted to the medical college after his condition worsened. After getting permission from the police and the district administration, local people gunned down the wild boar.

Divisional Forest Officer Amandeep Kaur has directed the grama panchayat authorities and forest officials to clear the document verification procedures for releasing compensation to Abdul Salam’s family on a fast-track basis. Ms. Kaur also submitted a request to the District Collector seeking his intervention to get separate aid from the State government’s fund for the victim’s family.
