Chennai Metrowater has directed those living in residential buildings and owners of commercial establishments to construct collection chamber of their waste water system within their premises to prevent blocks in the sewer network.
A press release said Chennai Metrowater Managing Director K.Gopal, during an inspection in T.Nagar, recently found that some of the large commercial establishments had constructed the collection chamber of their sewer system on the roadside or footpath, violating rules.
The terminal collection chamber, which collects sewage from the premises, is connected to the manhole and sewerage network. The link between chamber and manhole is carried out by the Chennai Metrowater. According to the rules of the water agency, the chamber has to be constructed within the premises of the property.
Solid waste and plastic waste that gets into these chambers block the flow and result in sewage overflow. For clarifications, the Metrowater area engineers may be contacted, the release said.
