October 29, 2013 09:23 am | Updated 09:23 am IST - CHENNAI:

Four members of the Hindu Munnani were arrested for allegedly attacking two Muslim youths in Esplanade on Sunday evening.

According to the police, the cadres — Yuvaraj, Manickam, Murugan, Kanagaraj and Velu and ten others, all of them residents of north Chennai — had taken part in the birthday celebrations of Hindu Munanni founder Ramagopalan and were returning.

When they were passing through Sembudas Street in Esplanade, they had an argument with two Muslim youngsters, Imran Khan and Rafiq. The argument soon escalated into a fistfight and Imran Khan and Rafiq were injured.

Soon after, a group of Muslims gathered on the street. The police pacified them and arrested Yuvaraj, Manickam, Murugan, Kanagaraj and Velu. They have been remanded to custody. A case has been registered and further investigation is on.
