The Employees State Insurance Corporation Medical College will continue to function and the seat matrix will be the same as last academic year.
A letter to this effect was issued by Vivek Handa, deputy medical commissioner on Thursday to the colleges run by ESIC across the country. Dr. Handa has also instructed ESIC college officials to inform the relevant authorities in the respective States.
Health department officials, however, said they had not received any information so far. State Health Secretary J. Radhakrishnan said, “As far as we are concerned the college is similar to self-financing institutions that surrender seats to us.”
The Medical Council of India had pointed to several deficiencies during its inspection of the premises earlier this year.
Nearly 240 students are currently enrolled in MBBS and PG programmes in the college.
While PG programmes were started in 2011, the MBBS programme was launched in 2013.
