Drunk youths held for damaging ATM in Chennai

Three drunk youths damaged two ATMs in Triplicane early on Sunday after they allegedly picked up a fight with a security guard at a kiosk. Police arrested the trio and put them behind bars.

Sources with the Triplicane police said Abdul Shahid (22), Mohammed Irfan (28) and Abdul Riyaz (23), all residents of Triplicane, quarrelled with security guard Lakshman on duty at the ATM of a private bank in Ellis Road around 3 a.m.

The trio attacked the guard injuring him and damaged the ATM and the kiosk with stones and water. They moved away from the spot before a police patrol team could reach there. The youths then went to another ATM kiosk on Appavoo Gramani Street in Triplicane and damaged the glass door by flinging stones at it and kicking it.

The police patrol team apprehended the trio soon after. They were brought to the Triplicane police station for questioning. The youths were arrested for damaging the ATM and the kiosks and assaulting the security guard. Their actions were all caught on the CCTV cameras at the kiosks. They were remanded to custody and sent to Puzhal prison, sources added.
