The Teynampet police arrested a DMK functionary on Friday, after she allegedly issued a death threat to Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.

Police sources said Karl Marx (65), a stage speaker of the DMK, was a participant at the party’s oratorical meeting held here on June 19. In her speech, Marx said she would turn a human bomb and assassinate the Chief Minister if the party permitted it. The speech was condemned by senior leaders of DMK.

The contents of the meeting appeared in a Tamil magazine, following which an advocate filed a case to initiate action against Marx.

A court then directed the police to apprehend Marx on charges of sedition and criminal intimidation.

A special team of the Teynampet police, on Friday morning, arrested Marx in Thanjavur. She was brought to Chennai, remanded to custody and sent to Puzhal prison, sources said.
