DD Medical students held twice in 3 days

September 09, 2013 11:46 am | Updated June 02, 2016 10:37 am IST - CHENNAI:

For the second time in three days, the police evicted students of DD Medical College, Tiruvallur, from the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University campus, on Sunday.

The students have been camping at the varsity, in protest, for the past 19 days demanding that the government take measures to obtain MCI recognition for their college.

On Sunday, the students were arrested around 9 a.m., lodged in a school near Guindy, and released around 7 p.m. However, the students returned to the university campus later.

On Friday too, the police arrested and later released the students. “We returned to the campus and the police arrested us again on Sunday. We went on a fast to put forward our demand. Our letters to the Medical Council of India, the Union health minister and the State government yielded no response,” said one of the protesting students.

The students said they were trying to garner support from their contemporaries in other colleges too.
