A total of 967 donors helped raise ₹33.81 lakh in a week’s time to enable a patient to meet his medical expenses.

The patient’s wife took to crowdfunding on ImpactGuru.com after he was advised to undergo a liver transplant that would cost ₹35 lakh.

The patient, Vinoth, was rushed to Apollo Hospitals after he started vomiting blood.

His wife, Akilandeswari, who had exhausted all her financial resources, took to crowdfunding, according to a press release.

Healthcare crowdfunding helps raise funds for medical expenses with the patient relying on social media networks to mobilise donors to finance medical bills.

Donors contributed small sums of money online to help raise a larger amount.

The advantage of crowdfunding is that patients do not have to repay the money as the money provided online is a donation and not a loan.

Apollo Hospitals and ImpactGuru.com have had a partnership since May 2018, the release added.
